2020-07-13Our students won the 71st Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival - Public Speaking Team Competition

Our school public speaking team performed excellently and won the Hong Kong Speech Festival Public Speaking Team Competition (Class E201) with a total of 87 marks. During the previous couple of years, we have entered F6 students into the competition. The reason for this is that it may serve as a positive distraction from the intense focus of the coming DSE exams, and at the same time help them improve their public speaking skills. This year, students from 6 Matthew and 6 Mark entered as a three-member group. The students were: 6 Matthew Angel Fan, 6 Mark Hugo Lee and Minnie Ma. There was a choice of two topics that they could present – 1) Cyberbullying 2) Conversation Tips. Our students chose the latter as it appeared to be more challenging. Congratulations to our students.

2019-09-10Students' sharing at morning assembly - "How to study Mathematics" by 6 Mark Lee Tsun Siu

Good morning principal, teachers and schoolmates,

Today I want to bring you to a topic about “studying maths”. I had quite a tough time studying maths when I was in Form1. I was new to this place and everything was in English. I performed poorly in English so it was quite challenging for me to adapt to the totally new environment. What I was most worried about was my mathematics. It was totally different from what I learnt in primary school, in both language and topics. Fortunately, with the help provided by teachers, I got to understand how to study maths step by step.

For junior form students, it is very important to build solid foundation in both English and mathematics. Through daily communication and learning different vocabulary bit by bit, it is easier to learn and speak English. In mathematics in particular, some of the words are used repeatedly. These words should be memorized through your learning.

After completing this, you can move on to the next step, how to train your mathematics skills. In my opinion, learning the steps and memorizing the equation are both very important in studying mathematics. Completing the tasks provided by teachers is not enough. You might have forgotten what you learn today during the exam or tests. You don’t want to see it happen but it will if you are not paying enough attention to what you have learnt. For me, I recommend taking 10 to 15 minutes every day to revise what you have learnt and trying to complete some questions in your textbook. 10 to 15 minutes seems to be a slight change to your daily life, but it is going to make a big difference after a month.

Studying mathematics is not something easy. Everything you learn is going to be forgotten slowly. Daily exercises are important to not only mathematics, but every other subject. This is the end of my sharing. Thank you.

2019-09-13School Year Opening Ceremony & Our Lady of Sorrows’ Feast Day Mass
The School Year Opening Ceremony was held on 13th September 2019. Our supervisor, Sr. Lucy, reminded us to learn kindness and respecting everybody from Blessed Mother. It is our honour to have Mr. Rex Cheng as our guest and present Rex Cheng Scholarship. That morning, every student was given a Mary Untier of Knots Prayer Card as a gift, hoping that we would find God and offer our heart to God in adversity. After the ceremony, all teachers and Catholic students proceeded to St. Alfred’s Church for the Mass of Our Lady of Sorrows’ Feast Day with IHMS and IHMK teachers and pupils. The mass was celebrated by Rev. Carol Tei. He encouraged all of us to learn obedience from Blessed Mother so that we could be a blessing to others. The mass ended in Father Tei’s blessings and hymns of praise.
