F.5 Biology Field Study Camp @ Caritas Chan Chun Ha Field Studies Centre 20172017-04-11

All F.5 biology students had a 3-days field study camp on 11-13 April 2017. They had their first field study at Sliver Stream in Mui Wo, Lantau Island. On the second day, they had a field study in a woodland in Cheung Chau. This course help them a lot in understanding Ecology and they all enjoyed a great time in the field course.

MobileLab @ IHMC 20172017-03-13

The MobileLab was invited to visit our school. Gifted Biology Students from F.3 to F.5 were arranged to joined different activities on the MobileLab. F.5 students learnt the principle and had hand on experience on electrophoresis, F.4 students enjoyed their experience in extracting DNA from E. coli, while F.3 students had fun with the Glo-hand experience to evaluate how they washed their hands. Students were happy to have chance to widen their horizon in biology with the help of the lecturers of MobileLab.

Biotech Student Workshop @ InnoCarnival 20162016-10-30

16 Form 5 Biology students joined the Microbial World Workshop named "Beware of the Invisibles - Where are the Germs?" organized by the MobileLab @InnoCarvinal 2016.

F.5 Field Study Camp @ Ho Koon Nature Education Centre 20162016-07-06

All F.5 Biology students had a 3-day field study camp at Ho Koon Nature Education Centre. Students had a leaf litter survey on the first day. This is the first time students had a close look on the fauna in the leaf litter. They were all excited with the living organisms in the leaf litter. On the second day morning, they had to plan their own investigation project above mangrove. They had to carry it out in the afternoon and had presentation on the third day. This was a very good experience for the students to learn in-situ in the natural environment.

Hong Kong Biology Olympiad for Secondary School 2015/20162016-01-02

16 Form 6 students joined the Hong Kong Biology Olympiad for Secondary School 2015/2016 and were awarded prizes.

Visit to The Swire Institute of Marine Science, The University of Hong Kong2015-11-23

All Form 6 students visited The Swire Institute of Marine Science, The University of Hong Kong. This Research Centre is located at Cape d'Aguilar Marine Reserve. Students had a field trip on the Rocky Shore in the Marine Reserve and received an introduction to the research projects doing there and the facilities in the Institute. All students had a fruitful day.

IHMC 35th Anniversary Open Day @ Biology Laboratory2015-11-21

On the Open Day of celebrating the 35th Anniversary of our School, we provided various biology learning activities to our guests. Dissection is one of our learning focus and we demonstrated this to our guests our learning outcomes. We also demonstrated an interesting experiment about the yeast, a widely used microorganisms in our daily life. We had shared our learning outcomes with our guests.

Hong Kong Students' Science Project Competition 20152015-03-21

5 Form 5 students joined the Hong Kong Students' Science Project Competition 2015. They carried out their research on the day and night behaviour of Alpheus lobidens, a pistol shrimp found under large rocks on Sheltered Sandy Shore.

MobileLab @ IHMC 20152015-01-14

The MobileLab was invited to visit our school. Gifted Biology Students from F.4 to F.6 were arranged to joined different activities on the MobileLab. Students had a chance to learn much more about latest Biotechnology techniques and their application. They also granted chances to have hand-on experience to do biotechnology experiments on the MobileLab.

Science students exchange programme @ Zhejiang University 20142014-07-27

10 Form 4 students were selected to joined the Science students exchange programme at Zhejiang University from 27 Jul - 2 Aug. Students had a chance to have lectures by the top scientists there and hand-on experience on doing experiment in the University Campus. Students enjoyed the time with the students from Zhejiang University as well as the science activities organized by the University.

Hoi Ha Wan Field Study Trip2014-05-16

35 Form 4 students were selected to joined the Hoi Ha Wan Field Study Course organized by Hoi Ha Wan Marine Centre, WWF. Students had their first field experience learning the adaptation of the mangrove trees and living organisms found there. They were lucky that on those days there was red tide around Hoi Ha Wan so that they could have chance to see the Planktons that caused the red tide. This plankton species glows under current flow. They were all excited with this precious experience. Finally, they took a boat trip to observe the coral community in Hoi Ha Wan. This was the first time they observe coral in the natural habitat. All students had a great memorable trip.

Hong Kong Students' Science Project Competition 20142014-05-10

5 Form 4 students joined the Hong Kong Students' Science Project Competition 2014. They studied the ecology and adaptation of Alpheus lobidens in Starfish Bay from December to March. Their hard work was appreciated by the judges.

Searching for Nature Stories 20142014-04-26

5 Form 4 students joined the Searching for Nature Stories Biology competition 2014. Their investigation on the pistol shrimp titled "The sound under the rock" awarded a Merit.

Science Day @ IHMC 20132013-11-06

This was the first time for Science Team to organize Science Day for IHMC students. The Biology counter introduced an interesting marine organism - the soldier crab to the students. Unlike other crabs only move laterally, soldier crab can move in all directions. They burrow themselves into the sand within several seconds. It is a very successful species living in sheltered sandy shore.

Hong Kong Avian Ecology Programme2013-07-08

The Gifted Education Team of our school had organized an Avian Ecology Programme for gifted biology students. We invited Mr. Samson So, a famous Environmental Educator to introduce the Avian species and the Hong Kong Ecological Environment to our students. Students were all enjoy it.
